Snow Shoveling Ordinance

The Board wants to give the residents of Milledgeville fair warning about the snow shoveling ordinance for this coming winter. It was discussed at length in 2017 and will be enforced in 2018. If you will be gone for the winter, you will need to make sure you have someone to shovel for you.

All residents will need to have the snow removed from their sidewalks 12 hours after the snow falls or they will be ticketed. The Ordinance is listed below. Building owners and landlords will also be held to this Ordinance, whether their property is occupied or not. Thank you.

Snow Removal-Encumbrance: The occupant of each and every tenement, building or premises of the Village of Milledgeville fronting upon any street, or the owner of any unoccupied lot fronting upon any street, shall at all times keep the sidewalks in front of such tenement, building or premises lot free of encumbrance, and within the first 12(twelve) hours after daylight after the ceasing to fall of any snow, shall cause the snow to be removed from said sidewalk. PENALTY: Any person, firm or corporation violating any provision of this Article shall be fined not less than twenty-five ($25.00) nor more than two-hundred dollars ($200.00) for each offense. A separate offense shall be deemed committed on each day during or on which violation occurs or continues.
